How do I appeal an unemployment insurance denial in Ohio?

1. Agency. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), Office of Unemployment Insurance Operations, administers UI under Ohio Rev. Code Chapter 4141.

2. Common Disqualifications. Voluntary quit without just cause connected with the work (Ohio Rev. Code § 4141.29(D)(2)(a)), discharge for just cause (same section), refusal of suitable work, not able and available (§ 4141.29(A)(4)), or receipt of severance pay.

3. Determination Notice. ODJFS mails a Determination of Unemployment Compensation Benefits stating the reason and appeal rights.

4. Appeal Deadline. 21 calendar days from the mailing date (Ohio Rev. Code § 4141.281(A)). Late appeals require good cause shown.

5. Filing the Appeal. File online at unemployment.ohio.gov, by mail, fax, or in person.
