Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

Federal & State Law is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We believe that access to legal information is a fundamental right, and we are dedicated to providing an inclusive digital experience for all users, regardless of ability or technology.

Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), are the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility. They are organized around four principles: content should be Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust (POUR).

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following features to support accessibility:

  • Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements, including menus, links, buttons, and form controls, are fully navigable using only a keyboard.
  • Screen reader support — our pages are structured with semantic HTML and ARIA labels to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies such as screen readers.
  • Color contrast — text and interactive elements maintain sufficient color contrast ratios as defined by WCAG 2.1 Level AA, ensuring readability for users with low vision or color vision deficiencies.
  • Text resizing — the website is designed to remain functional and readable when text is resized up to 200% in the browser.
  • Alt text for images — all meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked appropriately so they are ignored by assistive technologies.
  • ARIA labels — we use ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes throughout the site to provide additional context for interactive components, navigation landmarks, and dynamic content.
  • Semantic HTML — we use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, lists, tables, and other semantic elements to provide a clear and logical document structure.
  • Focus indicators — visible focus outlines are provided for all interactive elements to assist keyboard navigation.
  • Dark and light modes — the site supports both dark and light display modes to accommodate user preferences and reduce eye strain.
  • Responsive design — the site is fully responsive and works across devices of all sizes, from mobile phones to desktop monitors.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas may have limitations:

  • Some older PDF documents linked from third-party sources may not be fully accessible.
  • Certain complex data visualizations and interactive simulations may have limited screen reader support; we provide text alternatives where possible.
  • User-generated community content may not always meet our accessibility standards.

We are actively working to address these limitations and improve accessibility across all areas of the site.

Browser Compatibility

The site is tested and supported on the latest versions of the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

We recommend using the most recent version of your preferred browser for the best experience, including optimal support for assistive technologies.
