Virginia offers one of the lowest marriage license fees in the country with same-day issuance.

1. Where to Apply

  • Any Circuit Court Clerk's office in Virginia (Va. Code § 20-14).
  • Both parties must appear together.
  • 2. ID and Documents

  • Government-issued photo ID and Social Security number (or affidavit if none).
  • Previously married: date of dissolution (no waiting period after divorce in Virginia).
  • 3. Fees

  • $30 statewide — one of the lowest in the U.S.
  • 4. Waiting Period and Expiration

  • No waiting period — license issued same day.
  • License valid for 60 days from issuance (Va. Code § 20-14).
  • 5. Age and Residency
