How do I get a marriage license in Arizona?

Arizona offers a very long license validity period and same-day issuance.

1. Where to Apply

  • Clerk of the Superior Court in any Arizona county (A.R.S. § 25-121).
  • Both parties must appear together.
  • 2. ID and Documents

  • Government-issued photo ID and Social Security number (or affidavit if none).
  • Previously married: date of divorce or death (certified decree may be requested).
  • 3. Fees

  • $83 statewide.
  • 4. Waiting Period and Expiration

  • No waiting period — issued same day.
  • License valid for 12 months (A.R.S. § 25-121) — among the longest validity periods nationally.
  • 5. Age and Residency

  • 18 minimum. 16-17 may marry with parental consent only if the partner is no more than 3 years older (A.R.S. § 25-102). No marriages under 16.
  • No residency requirement.
  • 6. Blood Test and Same-Sex Marriage

  • No blood test required.
