limitation of actions

Limitation of actions refers to the restriction on the time period within which a legal action , or claim , must be initiated. This limitation is most commonly established through statutes of limitations or statutes of repose . In some cases, time limits may also arise under the equitable doctrine of laches , which bars claims where there has been an unreasonable delay in asserting a right and that delay has prejudiced the opposing party.
