SALE OF 140 UNCERTIFIED ENGINES.VIOLATION AROSE BECAUSE T HE MANUFACTURER/IMPORTER APPLIED LATE FOR ITS YEAR 2000 ENGI NE CERTIFICATIONS. AS A RESULT, CERTIFICATION WAS NOT ISSUE D BEFORE IMPORT DATE. NISSAN'S TRACKING SYSTEM WAS NOT SUFF ICIENT TO STOP IMPORTATION. WHEN THE ERROR WAS DISCOVERED N ISSAN REPORTED IT PROMPTLY. NISSAN AGREED TO A PENALTY OF $1 4,000 AND IMPROVED ITS TRACKING SYSTEM. NISSAN HAD ALSO VOL UNTARILY FROZEN DISTRIBUTION OF THE ENGINES INCLUDING THOSE ALREADY AT DEALERS. NISSAN WAS PERMITTED TO RESUME DISTRIBU TION OF ENGINES.
