Motor Vehicle Waste Disposal Wells (MVWDWs) were banned in Alaska on April 5, 2000 and were required to be closed by January 1, 2005. Matsu has agreed to permanently close the injection well and to pay a penalty of $42,000. Closure of MVWDWs protects drinking water from potential motor vehicle contaminants.
