EPA v. North Pacific Seafoods

Case summary

On August 25, 2022, EPA Region 10 issued a Compliance Agreement and Final Order (CAFO) to North Pacific Seafoods, Inc., for violations of CAA air rules for stationary diesel electric engines and commercial waste incinerators at two fish processing plants in the Alaska Native Village of Naknek. EPA Region 10 alleged that North Pacific Seafoods failed to conduct required maintenance on diesel engines, such as oil changes, which help to minimize air pollution, and to keep records of the maintenance they did perform. In addition, both plants built and operated waste incinerators without notifying EPA or the State about their use or applying for a Title V air permit and meeting other requirements for such incinerators. Respondent agreed to pay a penalty amount of $345,800. All three incinerators have been decommissioned.
