EPA v. Cascade Columbia Distribution Company

Case summary

On July 26, 2018, EPA Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order with Newco, Inc., d/b/a Cascade Columbia Distribution Company to resolve violations of FIFRA. Between February and September 2017, Cascade Columbia distributed the misbranded pesticide Sodium Hypochlorite Solution 12.5% (EPA Reg. No. 10897-26-73015) on at least 25 occassions. An EPA review of labels collected during an inspection of Cascade Columbia's Seattle establishment found that the label for Sodium Hypochlorite Solution 12.5% did not match the EPA Accepted Label for the product. EPA found deficiencies in the sections of the label regarding hazards to humans and domestic animals, environmental hazards, physical and chemical hazards, and storage and disposal. As labeled, the product did not contain a warning or caution statement necessary to protect health and the environment. The company agreed to pay a penalty of $52,214. This enforcement action is the result of collaboration with Oregon Department of Agriculture and EPA Region 10.
