EPA v. GOSSNER FOODS INC
Final Order No Penalty
Case summary
On May 4, 2017, EPA issued a compliance order on consent to Gossner Foods Inc. Gossner Foods is a cheese making facility. Wastewater from the facility is discharged to the City of Burley wastewater treatment plant. Discharges to the City of Burley treatment plant must meet the pretreatment regulations of the Clean Water Act, at 40 CFR part 403. The facility exceeded the pH limit set in the national prohibited discharge standards on a number of occasions. This compliance order requires Gossner Foods to develop a compliance plan including installation of a new neutralization tank that will ensure compliance with the pH limit. Ensuring compliance with the pH limit will minimize potential corrosion and other negative impacts to the operation of the City of Burley treatment plant. This will in turn help ensure quality discharges of wastewater from the City of Burley treatment plant.
