Case summary

On June 30, 2014, Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order with the United States Army, the owner and operator of underground storage tanks at 13 facilities within U.S. Army Fort Wainwright Garrison, in Fort Wainwright, AK to address 20 violations, including failure to provide release detection for tanks and piping; failure to operate and maintain cathodic protection; failure to report a suspected release; failure to investigate and confirm a release; and failure to comply with temporary closure requirements. The Army is also required to submit documentation of all tanks taken out of service and/or removed. The Army agreed to pay a $158,679 penalty.
