EPA v. US Air Force Base - Makah Station (Former) (FF)

Final Order No Penalty

Case summary

Administrative Order on Consent issued to the U.S. Air Force for the cleanup of petroleum released from leaking underground storage tanks (LUSTs) at the Former Makah Air Force Station located on the Makah Indian Reservation. The U.S. Air Force was the owner and operator of 24 underground storage tanks (USTs) that were located at the Former Makah Air Force Station. The USTs were removed in 1989, however characterization and adequate cleanup as required by 40 CFR Subpart F were never completed. Limited site assessment data available indicates that petroleum was released from at least 14 of the 24 USTs, causing soil and groundwater contamination at the site.
