Case summary
On February 6, 2012, Region 10 filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order with the City of Wapato, Washington (City) for violations of its NPDES permit at the Citys wastewater treatment facility. The City has agreed to pay a $57,000 penalty. The Citys wastewater treatment facility provides secondary treatment of wastewater prior to discharge to the Yakima River. Between June 2006 and May 2010, the facility had 431 effluent limit violations of its NPDES permit, largely for exceeding their ammonia limits. The facility also discharged without a permit between June 2010 and September 2011.
