EPA v. TRIDENT SEAFOODS CORPORATION

Final Order With Penalty

Case summary

Trident Seafoods Corp. is globally resolving CWA NPDES claims involving 14 of Trident's seafood processing facilities including its Akutan plant, the largest in North America. Alleged violations include failure to conduct dive surveys, waste pile size exceedances and unauthorized discharges. In addition to the $2.5 million penalty amount, negotiated injunctive relief includes: a new fish meal plant in Bristol Bay with the capacity to handle processing waste from all local dischargers; significant source control at Akutan, Ketchikan, Cordova, and St. Paul; remedial pilot projects to address the historic waste piles at Akutan; and regular monitoring of seafood waste piles and benthic health.
