EPA v. Argent Chemical Laboratories, Inc.

Case summary

Argent has had a long history of FIFRA violations dating back to 1988 when they were criminally convicted under both the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and FIFRA. In 1993 they were again illegally producing, selling and distributing pesticides and were civilly convicted (purposed penalty $105,000). A June 2001 inspection by the EPA revealed the same illegal actions found in 1993. Since Argent was not forthright in providing all documentation requested by the EPA inspector and because some documents appeared ?doctored? EPA Region 10 filed for an Administrative Warrant that was issued to Argent on February 25 and 26, 2003. Documentation and information collected in the June 2001 inspection and the February 2003 Warrant are the basis for this action. The documentation shows numerous violations of FIFRA as described above.
