Case summary

US EPA and the Hopi Tribe (Respondent) enter into this Administrative Order on Consent ( the Order ) for the purpose of bringing the Hopi Cultural Center public drinking water system located approximately sixty (60) miles east of Tuba City on Highway 264 into compliance with the requirements of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The Hopi Cultural Center contains a restaurant, a hotel and an arts and crafts center. The Order establishes several requirements that Respondent must meet, including the requirement to submit a plan for coming into compliance, conduct sampling and monitoring, provide public notification of monitoring/sampling results, and to provide alternate drinking water that meets the SDWA standards to hotel and Hopi Cultural Center guests, until compliance is demonstrated and maintained.
