Case summary

This ROD addresses 43 sites and the largest volume of wastes to be addressed under Privatization at McClellan (60,988 cubic yards). There will be 3 more Privatization RODs. The 43 Action Sites are grouped geographically in the area to the east and south of the airfield and come from larger RI/FS site groups known as the Follow-on Strategic Sites, Small Volume Sites, and Building 252 Sites. The 43 sites are included in this ROD for both volatile organic compound (VOC) contaminants in shallow soil gas (depths less than 15 feet below ground surface [bgs]) and for non-VOC contaminants in soil within 15 feet bgs. The sites have already been transferred to McClellan Business Park under FOSET # 2, except for 7 sites that are delayed transfer due to radiological removals. As a result of past industrial activities, releases of hazardous substances have contaminated soil that requires further response actions at all 43 sites. The response actions selected in this ROD are necessary to protect the public health or the environment from actual or threatened releases of hazardous substances into the environment.
