EPA v. Evergreen Pulp Mill
Final Order With Penalty
Case summary
EPA enforced against this facility for Clean Air Act violations of PM10 and toxic air pollutants for Smelt Disolving Tank & Lime Kiln per Title V & Maximum Achievable Control Technology (Subpart MM). In October 2008, the Evergreen Pulp mill shut down and completely ceased production. The Facility's owners returned to China, and eventually sold the mill to a local entrepreneur. The new owner was unable to obtain financing to re-start the mill; recent news reports (Dec. 2010) state that the mill is permanently shutdown and is in the process of being dismantled.
