EPA v. Virginia City
Final Order No Penalty
Case summary
The Order addressed the following violations: failure to develop and submit a Lead Service Line Inventory by October 16, 2024; failure to notify customers of any lead service lines, galvanized service lines, or unknown service lines; and failure to make the Lead Service Line Inventory publicly available. Among other requirements, the Agency ordered the System to develop and submit a Lead Service Line Inventory; notify customers served by lead, galvanized, or unknown service lines; make the Lead Service Line Inventory publicly available; and notify the public of the violations. The State of Montana provided the System with compliance assistance prior to referring them to EPA for enforcement action. EPA, rather than the State of Montana, took this action because Montana has not applied for primary authority to enforce the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements.
