On February 2, 2019, a train derailment occurred due to excessive speed in Wendover Canyon in Wyoming, which is a very narrow canyon. One locomotive ran into another locomotive, resulting in three locomotives and five cars derailing spilling 5900 gallons of diesel and 800 gallons of lubricating oil down the hillside and into the South Platte River.
