EPA v. HAMM, Inc. CAA 113D1 Action for Penalty

Final Order With Penalty

Case summary

The March 29, 2022, inspection and subsequent investigation revealed the following violation: failure to take corrective action within ten days of detection of a methane exceedance. Landfill gas is composed of methane, carbon dioxide, and small amounts of non-methane organic compounds. Methane and carbon dioxide are greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. Methane is a particularly potent GHG. Ensuring MSW landfills correctly mark the location of methane exceedances and take prompt corrective action to address these exceedances reduces emissions from these sources.
