Case summary
On March 25, 2015, EPA Region 6 issued an Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) under its authority pursuant to the Clean Air Act to Rentech Nitrogen Pasadena LLC (Rentech). The AOC was issued in response to violations of Section 112(r)(7) of the Clean Air Act and 40 CFR Part 68. The AOC requires Rentech to hire a third party safety and health expert to conduct a hazard assessment of ammonia operations and complete a written report. Within 180 days of the effective date of this Order, Rentech shall provide to EPA a plan on how the expert's recommendations will be addressed and implemented. Rentech is required implement and finalize a system for encouraging employees to identify and communicate safety and other matters related to Rentech's compliance with 40 CFR Part 68 and install additional ammonia detectors at the Pasadena facility.
