Case summary

On June 30, 2015, EPA Region 6 issued an Administrative Order (AO) under its authority pursuant to Sections 308 and 309 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) to John Sinclair Production, LLC (Respondent) located in Union County, Arkansas. The AO was issued in response to an unauthorized produced water discharge resulting in a violation of the CWA. The AO requires the Respondent to: (1) Any continued discharges of pollutants from the facility must cease immediately; (2) remove all pollutants from the flow path located between the facility and the discharge point of entry into the tributary; (3) remove sufficient amounts of produced wastewater, which was discharged from the facility on or about April 9, 2015, from the tributary so that the tributary is at or below background salinity levels; and, (4) submit written documentation in the form of written certification. The Respondent must respond to EPA Region 6 within 30 days of receiving this AO.
