Case summary

On December 10, 2014, EPA Region 6 issued an Administrative Order (AO) under its authority pursuant to Sections 308 and 309 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) to Atmos Energy Corporation (Respondent)located in Irving, Texas. The AO was issued in response to a drilling mud discharge to a waters of the US. The AO requires the Respondent to (1) Immediately cease all discharges of pollutants from the facility; (2) remove all pollutants from the tributary and all water bodies down gradient, which was discharged from the facility on or about September 16, 2014, and (3) submit written certification. The Respondent must respond to EPA Region 6 within 30 days of receiving the AO.
