Case summary
On June 11, 2013, EPA Region 6 issued an Administrative Order (AO) under its authority pursuant to Section 1421 of the Safe Drinking Water Act to GKM Oil and Gas, Inc., in Vinita, Oklahoma. The AO was issued in response to the following violation: failure to maintain an injection well in a manner that prevents movement of contaminants through the well bore into underground sources of drinking water (USDWs). The AO requires GKM to complete the corrective action requirements according to EPA regulations. GKM must respond to the AO to: 1) complete plugging of the well; 2) convert it to production or 3) repair it and demonstrate mechanical integrity within 60 days.
