Case summary

On March 28, 2012, EPA Region 6 issued an Adminsitrative Order (AO) under its authority pursuant to Section 1421 of the Safe Drinking Water Act to Smith Petroleum, LLC, located in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. The AO was issued in response to violations of maintaining an injection well in a manner which could allow contaminants to flow through the well bore into underground sources of drinking water (USDWs). The AO requires Smith Petroleum, LLC to either plug the well or complete appropriate corrective actions to prevent contamination of USDWs.
