Case summary

Respondent is a small oil company which operates oil leases in Osage County, Oklahoma. Respondent violated Underground Injection Control (UIC) regulations promulgated under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The regulations prohibit Respondent from maintaining an injection well which may allow contamination of underground sources of drinking water (USDWs). Respondent is maintaining an injection well which has a static fluid level above the base of USDWs. This represents a potential that fluids can flow through the well and contaminate the USDWs. An adminstrative order was proposed on January 16, 2003, which requires Respondent to complete work on the well to prevent contamination of underground sources of drinking water.
