EPA v. Magna Mirrors of America d/b/a Engineered Glass
Final Order With Penalty
Case summary
On August 17, 2018, U.S. EPA Region 5 filed an Expedited Settlement Agreement and Final Order (ESA) that simultaneously commences and concludes an administrative action with two Magna Mirrors of America d/b/a Engineered Glass facilities (MEG) in Holland, Michigan. MEG is an intermediate automotive glass assembler and manufacturer. The ESA alleges that MEG violated the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) as determined during inspections conducted on February 6 and 7, 2018. The inspections determined that MEG 1) failed to properly label and date containers of hazardous waste, 2) failed to provide annual training to personnel in hazardous waste management, 3) failed to maintain necessary records, and 4) failed to properly manage containers of used oil and universal waste lamps. MEG has agreed to pay a $8,000 civil penalty to resolve the alleged violations at its two facilities and has demonstrated that it is now in compliance will all applicable RCRA regulations.
