EPA v. MECA AND TECHNOLOGY MACHINE, INC.

Case summary

On June 2, 2015, Region 5 sent out a signed Consent Agreement and Final Order simultaneously commencing and concluding an action against Meca & Technology Machine, Inc. (Meca) of Green Bay, Wisconsin for alleged violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Region 5 and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) jointly inspected Meca's facility in 2011. Region 5 alleged that Meca accumulated hazardous waste beyond 180 days. WDNR had previously brought this issue to Meca's attention through a Notice of Violation in 2007. Region 5 also alleged six other violations of WDNR's hazardous waste rules. Meca has agreed to perform a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP). As part of this SEP, Meca will eliminate two hazardous waste streams from its processes. Meca will carry out this SEP for five years which is valued at $151,411. Meca has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $57,888.85, which it will pay in two installments within one year of the effective date of the CAFO.
