Case summary

EPA issued a Complaint and Compliance Order against Summit, Incorporated (Summit) located in Gary, Indiana. Summit operates an automotive scrap recycling business. The alleged violations are supported by test results obtained during a sampling inspection and information the facility provided in response to three information requests. Summit stored hazardous waste without a hazardous waste permit by failing to comply with the permit exemption conditions. EPA assessed a civil a penalty of $263,375 in the Complaint.
