Case summary
This enforcement action was filed in response to two hazardous chemical releases which occurred at the facility within three months of each other. On 5/24/2010, approximately 17,420 lbs of ammonia was released into the ambient air. On 8/18/2010, approximately 2,359 lbs of sodium hypochlorite was released into surface water, land surface or subsurface strata and ambient air. In both cases, the facility failed to immediately notify the NRC of the release - which is a violation of CERCLA 103a.
