Case summary

On June 24, 2014, U.S. EPA, Region 5, filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order commencing and concluding an action againts Jim Knibbs Building & Remodeling, Inc. (Knibbs). Knibbs, a renovation firm in Petoskey, Michigan, conducted or directed workers to perform renovation activities from March 15, 2010, to January 14, 2011, at target housing. Pursuant to a June 17, 2011 Information Request Letter, EPA determined that Knibbs allegedly committed five violations of 40 C.F.R. § 745.86(b)(2) that requires firms to retain acknowledgment of receipt of the pamphlet Renovate Right: Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers and Schools; and allegedly failed numerous times to retain and provide documentation of compliance with the work practice standards requirements and certifications. Knibbs agreed to pay a civil penalty of $1,000 for the alleged violations.
