Case summary

This Settlement Agreement provides for the performance of removal actions by Respondent and the payment of certain response costs incurred by the United States at or in connection with the Kokomo Dump Site (Site) located at 1130 South Dixon Road in Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana. The City of Kokomo has owned the Site property from April 1, 1963, until the present. The City of Kokomo operated a municipal landfill and incinerator at the Site from approximately 1963 to the 1970s. Possible exposure routes to hazardous substance include direct contact with contaminated surface soil or leaking particulate matter from drums; direct contact with subsurface soil during excavation activities; and inhalation resulting from wind dispersion of surface contaminants. Possible human receptors include on-site workers, site visitors, trespassers, and nearby residents, including children. Ecological receptors at the Site and in nearby Wildcat Creek, such as mammals, fish, and amphibians, could also be exposed to hazardous substances. There is a potential for contamination at the Site to migrate to the groundwater and the creek.
