On September 27, 2012, EPA Region 5 Land and Chemicals Division issued a Unilateral Administrative Order under Section 7003(a) of RCRA, after determination was made that conditions at the Polychem Services, Inc. Site in Chicago Heights, Illinois constitute an imminent and substantial endangerment to health and the environment. The Order is issued to the past and current owners and operators of the facility, and it requires the responsible parties to remove hazardous and solid waste from the Site, and to identify and address any releases of hazardous waste or hazardous substances at the Site. Hundreds of drums and totes of flammable spent solvents and caustic spent scrubber solution are stored outside at the Site.
