Case summary
This enforcement action was filed in response to a release of 750 gallons of 93.7% sulfuric acid which took place on US Highway 41 near I-352, Boswell, Indiana during transportation of the material on 8/22/2008. The release occurred when the tanker truck carrying the material was hit from behind by a semi truck. The sulfuric acid was released to the asphalt and quickly migrated to grass covered soil and a drainage ditch. The NRC was not notified until approximately 5 hours after the collision.
