EPA v. MCC-NORWAY, INC. (NORTHSTAR PRINT GROUP)

Case summary

On January 2005, MCC-Norway, Inc. (MCC) acquired the Northstar Print Group Inc., facility in Norway, Michigan. Following the acquisition, MCC performed an environmental audit which revealed noncompliance with various environmental record keeping and reporting regulations at the printing facility. MCC voluntarily self disclosed those violations to U.S. EPA and promptly took action to achieve compliance. However, U.S. EPA determined that Journal Communications Group, Inc., former owner of the Norway facility was liable for violations occurring prior to the sale of the plant to MCC. The CAFO issued by U.S. EPA, and $200,000 in penalty resolves those violations.
