U.S. EPA & GREAT LAKES ENGINEERING, INC. ENTER INTO A CONSENT AGREEMENT AND FINAL ORDER On September 5, 2006, Region 5 and Great Lakes Engineering, Inc. (Great Lakes), Maple Grove, MN, entered into a Consent Agreement and Final Order (CAFO) in resolution of violations that were detected as a result of a March 22, 2005, Compliance Evaluation Inspection. The Complaint was filed simultaneously with the CAFO. The Combination Complaint and CAFO alleges that GLE failed to obtain a tank system design and installation assessment for a hazardous waste storage tank system; failed to respond to releases or spills of hazardous waste from its production equipment in a timely manner; failed to maintain its facility to minimize the possibility of fire, explosion, or the release of hazardous waste into the environment; failed to store hazardous waste in either tanks or containers; failed to keep a container of hazardous waste closed; and failed to properly label two containers of hazardous waste. In the CAFO, GLE has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $44,764.
