U.S. EPA FILES A CONSENT AGREEMENT AND FINAL ORDER (CAFO) WITH FLAVORCHEM COMPANY On September 14, 2006, U.S. EPA Region 5 filed a CAFO with Flavorchem Company (Flavorchem), located at1525 Brook Drive, Downers Grove, Illinois 60515. Region 5 alleged that Flavorchem: a) did not have a contingency plan which included all required items; b) did not ensure that facility personnel successfully completed a program of classroom training or on-the-job training that teaches them to perform their hazardous waste management duties; c) did not prepare annual reports for calendar years 2003 and 2004; d) did not mark and make visible the date upon which accumulation began on six 55-gallon ignitable hazardous waste accumulation containers; and e) did not maintain aisle space in the hazardous waste storage area to allow the unobstructed movement of personnel, fire protection equipment, spill control equipment, and decontamination equipment. Flavorchem agreed to resolve this matter with a payment of a civil penalty amount of $67,433, and filed Annual Reports for calendar years 2003 and 2004, with the Illinois EPA.
