EPA v. MINNESOTA METAL FINISHING INC (SB)

Case summary

On August 26, 2005, the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 (EPA) filed an Administrative Complaint and Compliance Order (Complaint)against Minnesota Metal Finishing, Incorporated(MMF)for violations of the State of Minnesotaýýýs hazardous waste regulations at its installation located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. EPA observed violations during a compliance evaluation and investigation at MMF in May 2001. Subsequent inspections conducted by the Hennepin County Department of Environmental Services in June 2001, November 2002, April 2004 and April 2005, also revealed violations of the Stateýýýs hazardous waste rules. The Complaint, which was filed under the authority of the Resource, Conservation and Recovery Act, cites violations in areas including personnel training and recordkeeping, contingency plan, preparedness and prevention, and operating without a hazardous waste permit. The Complaint seeks specific injunctive relief as well as a civil monetary penalty in the amount of $300,000, plus interest, to be paid over a three-year period.
