EPA v. Al-Ko Kober
Final Order No Penalty
Case summary
System has to sample for lead, copper, total coliform bacteria asbestos and VOCs and SOCs and provide public notice for past violations. Al-Ko Kober Corporation successfully sampled its drinking water for total coliform bacteria, volatile organic contaminants, and lead and copper during 2003 and 2004 according to the schedule specified in the AO. It also sampled for synthetic organic contaminants (SOC) on July 21, 2003. Because the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) granted Al-Ko Kober Corporation a monitoring waiver for asbestos and SOCs after the AO was issued, Region 5 told Al-Ko Kober Corporation that it did not have to collect the asbestos sample required by the AO, or additional SOC samples during the fourth quarter of 2003 and first and second quarters of 2004. Al-Ko Kober Corporation also provided public notice for the past monitoring violations cited in the AO. A letter terminating the AO was issued to the system on 8/31/04.
