Case summary

'The Ionia City LF is owned by the City of Ionia. It operated as an unrestricted open dump from the mid to late 1950s until the late 1960s. Industrial, commercial and municipal wastes were disposed of at the site including drummed liquids from industrial sources. In 1995 the PRP conducted a removal action which removed contaminated soil, debris and drums from the point source area. In addition, an air stripper was designed and installed to remediate VOC contaminated ground that had been released from the point source area. A ROD was signed in September 2000 which included the continued operation of the air stripper to capture and clean up the 500 ug/l total VOC source plume in the groundwater. The remedy will be implemented by A.O. Smith and the City of Ionia under the terms of the CD.'
