THE MARZONE CHEMICAL COMPANY IS AN INACTIVE AGRICULTURAL CHEMICALS FORMULATING FACILITY THAT CONSISTED OF A MANU- FACTURING AND STORAGE BUILDING, A PESTICIDE LAGOON, AND FIVE STORAGE TANKS ON 3-ACRES AT THE INTERSECTION OF GOLDEN ROAD AND THE SOUTHERN RAILROAD TRACKS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF TIFTON, GA. THE SITE IS LOCATED NEAR OTHER INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS AND LESS THAN ONE-EIGHTH MILE FROM A RESIDENTIAL AREA, WITH SEVERAL RESIDENCES WITHIN 100 YARDS. THE NATURE OF OPERA- TIONS AT THE SITE IS UNKNOWN PRIOR TO 1950. FROM 1950 TO 1987, NUMEROUS COMPANIES OWNED AND OPERATED A BUSINESS AT THE SITE.
