Case summary
On March 26, 2024 EPA Region 3 filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order, simultaneously commencing and concluding an administrative action proceeding against the Southern Galvanizing Company ( SG ) located at 1620 Bush Street, Baltimore, MD 21230 ( Facility ) for alleged violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act ( RCRA ) and the authorized Code of Maryland Regulations ( COMAR ) discovered an EPA inspection of the Facility on September 24, 2019. SG is a facility that conducts a hot dip galvanization process on metal for corrosion protection. The violations in the settlement include operation without a hazardous waste permit; failure to make a hazardous waste determination; failure to document daily inspections of a hazardous waste tank; and failure to maintain and operate the facility to minimize the possibility of a release. Region 3 notified Maryland, which had no objections to this action. Per the terms of the Consent Agreement, SG will pay a civil penalty in the amount of $15,051.00. The Facility is in an EJ sensitive area.
