Case summary

On July 20, 2023, SEMD Director Paul Leonard signed Modification 1 to a UAO requiring Respondent BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration, Inc. (BAE) to perform Remedial Design/Remedial Action at OU1 of the North Penn Area 5 Superfund Site in Colmar, PA. Groundwater at the North Penn 5 Site is contaminated with TCE and 1,1-DCE. Modification 1 to the UAO requires BAE to design and implement the optimized groundwater extraction and treatment remedial action selected in the July 2016 ROD Amendment. Modifications were made to clarify definitions of North Penn 5 Site, Operable Unit 1, and Site generally. Reference was also added to the 2016 ROD Amendment to further clarify the scope of OU1 and North Penn 5. Pennsylvania is not a party to the UAO; however, the Commonwealth has been notified of this action. The site is not located in an EJ area of concern; however, potential concern for EJ has been found and some additional review may be required.
