Final Order With Penalty
Case summary
On September 13, 2002, Region III issued a CAFO that commenced and concluded a matter with Snyder Brothers, Incorporated (Snyder), for violations of the Underground Injection Control (UIC) provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) at its Gibson Lease Expansion facility in Foster Township, McKean County, PA (Facility). Snyder failed to demonstrate mechanical integrity at nine (9) injection wells and engaged in unauthorized injections. The CAFO settles the violations with a civil penalty of $122,500. During negotiations Snyder ceased operations at the Facility and plugged all the UIC wells. The CAFO is subject to public comment. EPA did not identify this as an area of potential environmental justice concern.
