Case summary

On July 19, 2022, EPA, Region III issued an Administrative Order ( Order ) to Brenton County Public Service District ( Brenton PSD ), a community water system located in Brenton, WV, alleging violations of the SDWA at its community water system, PWS Identification Number WV3305504. This enforcement action furthers the SDWA's goal of protecting the quality of the nation's drinking water. Brenton's violations include failure to monitor, and report for the Lead and Copper Rule ( LCR ), Arsenic, Radionuclides, Volatile Organic Chemical, Synthetic Organic Chemical, Nitrite, and Stage 2 Disinfection Byproduct for HAA5 and TTHM. Brenton also failed to issue numerous public notifications. The EPA ordered Brenton to: (1) issue all overdue public notifications; and (2) submit monitoring results for Arsenic, Radionuclides, Volatile Organic Chemicals, Synthetic Organic Chemicals, Nitrates, LCR and Stage 2 Disinfection Byproducts: HAA5 and TTHM. The Facility is not located in an area of potential EJ concern. EPA notified the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services of the action.
