On May 14, Region 3 issued a Notice of Refusal of Admission to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to refuse admission of unregistered disinfectant wipes being imported through the port of Baltimore, MD. FIFRA regulates pesticidal products, which includes any substance or mechanical device intended to prevent, destroy, repel, kill, or mitigate a pest, which includes disinfectants intended to prevent the novel coronavirus. Pesticides must be registered with the Agency, properly labelled, and produced in an EPA registered establishment. Sale and distribution of an unregistered pesticide is a violation of FIFRA. The importer has opted to remove the product from the shipment for destruction.
