Case summary
On December 20, 2017, EPA Region III entered a Consent Agreement and Final Order ( CAFO ) with Georgia-Pacific Panel Products LLC ( GP ) to settle a violation of the Clean Air Act ( CAA ). GP is a facility that manufactures plywood and composite wood products. GP performed a work practice violation of 40 CFR, Part 63, Subpart DDDD National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants: Plywood and Composite Wood Products, by applying Hazardous Air Pollutant ( HAP ) containing surface coatings during painting activities within their facility. EPA and GP have agreed to resolve GP's liability for this violation through GP discontinuing their use of the HAP containing surface coatings and a cash penalty of $80,000.
