Case summary

On October 4, 2016, EPA inspectors conducted an inspection of Hain Pure Protein Corp - Plainville Farms located in New Oxford, Pennsylvania ( facility ) to determine compliance with the Risk Management Program ( RMP ), Clean Air Act 112(r)(7) and the implementing regulations of 40 CFR Part 68. The facility is a poultry processing facility that utilizes 33,400 pounds of anhydrous ammonia in its refrigeration system. Based on the inspection observations, it was found that the Respondent had violated regulations implementing Section 112(r) of the Act, specifically, the facility failed to: (1) install audible and visual alarms on all exit doors in accordance with RAGAGEPs [68.65(d)(2)], (2) update and revalidate their PHA every 5 years [68.67(f))], and (3) maintain insulation on the hot gas defrost line [68.73(e)]
