Case summary

On October 16, 2007, the Hon. James Seibert issued a warrant authorizing entry, inspection, and sampling pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act at the Pennsboro Glass Site. The Site is located in Pennsboro, West Virginia, and was brought to the attention of the EPA by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. The State informed the EPA of a complaint by a Pennsboro City Council member about the possible presence of arsenic and strychnine at the Site. EPA was also aware that glass manufacturing operations typically utilize hazardous substances such as hydrogen fluoride, nitric acid and heavy metals which contain arsenic, cobalt, zinc, thorium, and uranium.
